Our school is located in the small town Meiningen. That´s in the middle of Germany, in a federal state called Thüringen. About 280 students aged between 11 and 16 years learn here.
About us:
What is our favorite holiday and how do we celebrate it?
Our students said that they have different „favorite holidays":
- one of them is Christmas (because you see your family, have great food, get presents, everything is decorated)
- another one is Silvester (New Year´s Eve) (because you have parties, go to bed very late or early…:)), you finish the old year and something new starts and
there´s a big firework)
- one of them is Easter (everything is decorated with eggs, you get presents (smaller ones, okay), spring starts, everything starts blooming, we have
holidays
And finally: „Kindertag“ (Kids´Day)- in our federal state we´ll have a new public holiday, it´s the 20th September, which is „Kindertag“, it will be for the first
time this year (because it´s a day off you can spend time with your family and we are the most important persons…:)))
What is the best part about living in our country?
- food was also an important fact in answering this question…students enjoy things like „Bratwurst“ which are typical German (Bratwurst is a fried/grilled sausage
we especially have in our region, you can buy it almost everywhere in our federal state called Thüringen)
- important to our kids is traveling (they said, they can travel where ever they want to…which was not the case in former East Germany, their parents told them
about these times)
- you can buy what you want to…we don´t suffer from hunger or serious illnesses, we are „safe“ in our country (we have a growing number of migrants from Syria or
Afghanistan and when we talk about their problems we notice that we have a „good life“….
Where would we like to travel to:
- to a variety of countries: first of all- the USA, Australia, Canada
- to Hollywood, to see the celebrities and stars :)))
- to Legoland (boys prefer that)
- to Zoos not far from here, to see animals we don´t have
What it is like to go to school in our country:
- start really early (7.30 am)
- we also have our classroom (same system as in your school)
- we have different lessons every day (we can send a schedule if you want to…), 6 or 8 lessons per day, with longer breaks...
- our school year is divided into two halves (August/September to February and March to June/July), after every half you get a school report
- our lessons are 45 minutes
- we get marks from one to six (numbers)
- we don´t have computers in our classroom (we only have a lab, where all the grades have to work….)
What do we do outside of school:
- playing computer games (Minecraft and Fortnite are also the favorite ones..:))
- meeting with friends, being outside, going by bike together
- playing soccer (esp. the boys, but also some girls play in teams here)
- dancing/playing an instrument
- martial arts (boys and girls)
- going to the movies is also popular here
- some of the girls do gymnastics
